Petition asks employees to join bargaining unit at WWJ-AM

The American Federation of Television & Radio Artists has filed a petition to represent broadcasters at WXYT-AM in Southfield, Mich.

AFTRA said the petition, filed with the National Labor Relations Board in Detroit, asks the employees to join the bargaining unit of their co-workers at WWJ-AM Newsradio 950, who have been repped by AFTRA since 1996.

Both stations are owned and operated by Infinity Broadcasting CBS and operate out of a single facility in Southfield.

AFTRA’s Detroit office also reps employees at WJBK-TV, WJRT-TV, CKLW-AM, CKWW-AM and CIMY-FM. Employees at the Detroit Metro Network Communications voted for AFTRA representation last in August and are in negotiations for their first collective bargaining agreement.
