NEW YORK — ABC will add two series to its “Disney’s One Saturday Morning” block this fall, including an animated skein exec produced by and starring Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.
Speaking at the Disney Kids Network upfront presentation in New York on Thursday, ABC Cable Network Groups president Anne Sweeney said the goal is to capitalize on the fact that the competish — specifically Fox Kids and Kids WB — both skew heavily male.
The as-yet-untitled series will be produced by the Olsen sisters’ Dualstar Animation in association with DIC Entertainment. The two stars will host a live-action lead-in to each episode.
The other new series, the animated “Teamo Supremo,” will follow the adventures of a quirky trio of superheroes. Spencer Breslin (“Disney’s The Kid”), Alanna Ubach, Martin Mull, Fred Willard and Julia Sweeney will provide voices. Guest voices include Mark Hamill, Tim Curry, Ed Asner, Jim Belushi, Wendie Malick and Michael McKean.
Coming into the kids upfront, ABC is in a relatively weak negotiating position, having dipped significantly in kids ratings compared with last year.
Among all kid competish, the Alphabet web ranks fourth in the kids 2-11 demo, averaging a 2.2 rating, down 24% from last year’s 2.9. Meanwhile, Nickelodeon averages a 5.0, Kids WB a 3.1 and Fox a 2.4.
ABC also falls in fourth place among kids 6-11, posting a 2.2 rating, down 27% from last year’s 3.0. Nickelodeon is in first place with a 5.4, followed by Kids WB (3.7) and Fox (2.8).
