The 41st Golden Rose, which unspools April 26-May 1 in Montreux, Switzerland, will include programs from 19 countries in the final stage of the world’s leading competition for light entertainment programs.
The pre-selection juries that gathered in Geneva recently selected 89 programs from the 228 nominated. There are 26 finalists from the U.K.; Canada, Germany and the U.S. have eight each; and Sweden and Switzerland follow closely with seven and five, respectively.
The Grand Jury will be chaired by Michele Cotta of France 2 TV. The awards, which for the first time will include an e-Rose for entertainment on the Internet, will be presented at a gala dinner April 30.
A May 1 daylong masterclass and workshop for writers and devisors, developed as a result of last year’s Formats Day, will focus on comedy, sitcoms and gameshows and will include sessions on writing for the Web, pitching to the U.S. (with gameshow creator Jonathan Goodson) and format surgery (with Fintan Coyle, co-creator of “The Weakest Link”).
