Third time’s the charm. E! Entertainment Television’s planned coverage of the Primetime Emmy Awards Nov. 4 will include Joan Rivers and Melissa Rivers on the red carpet after all.
When the Emmy gala was postponed from Sept. 16 — which was just days after the terrorist attacks in Gotham and Washington — E! decided not to feature red carpet and fashion coverage of the Emmys by the duo during the reskedded event, which was supposed to take place Oct. 7 (Daily Variety, Oct. 2). When the United States initiated military strikes in Afghanistan that day, the Emmys again were postponed.
Now the Emmys are scheduled for Nov. 4, and the Rivers duo will be there.
“The last time we spoke, the message the TV Academy sent out was that the mood of the night was going to be somber. Then the whole thing was canceled, and the most recent announcement indicates the message is now that it’s all about being uplifting,” E! senior VP of original programming John Rieber explained. “The fact is, no one is more uplifting than Joan Rivers.”
