Eye scores most news Emmys

PBS nabs seven kudos; CNBC lands five

NEW YORK — CBS News, fueled by six awards for “60 Minutes” and “60 Minutes II” combined, nabbed eight news and docu Emmys Wednesday, more than any other network.

The Eye net also brought home trophies for “CBS News Sunday Morning” and “Good Grief Charlie Brown: A Tribute to Charles Schulz.”

PBS came in second with seven awards, while CNBC landed five. NBC News earned four, and ABC News collected three.

The single program taking the most awards was CNBC’s “National Geographic Explorer,” which garnered the net’s five trophies.

Cable was well represented, with the Discovery Channel and MSNBC (“The News With Brian Williams”) each racking up two wins.

HBO, Cinemax, HBO Signature and TLC each earned one, while two statuettes went to the syndicated “Disney’s New True Life Adventures.”

HBO’s “One Day in September,” the documentary about the 1972 Munich Olympics tragedy, won for outstanding historical program.

“Dateline NBC,” under former exec producer Neal Shapiro, now president of NBC News, got two awards.

Kudos were presented at the Marriott Marquee in Gotham. CBS’ Charles Osgood served as master of ceremonies.

During the evening, “CBS Evening News” anchor Dan Rather paid tribute to the late John Cannon, former prexy of the National Academy of TV Arts and Sciences.
