In the wake of U.S. military attacks on Afghanistan, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has officially canceled tonight’s Emmy Awards.
Decision was made by academy officials and broadcast partner CBS at around 12:30 p.m. Pacific time — just hours before the ceremonies were set to begin.
The kudocast had been slated to begin at 5 p.m. Pacific time. Shortly after word of the U.S. military action filtered out, ATAS and CBS officials indicated that the show would go on. But insiders at several studios and networks soon began hearing from celebs and execs that they no longer planned to attend the show.
The Emmys had previously been postponed from their original Sept. 16 date.
