Pic preems without distrib, raises $ for American Cancer Society
The Silent Movie Theater wasn’t so silent on Tuesday night as the SRO crowd roared its approval during the premiere of indie film “Jane White Is Sick & Twisted.”
While it’s unusual for a film to premiere sans distribution, it was strictly personal for writer-director David Michael Latt and Kim Little — his leading lady on and off screen — as Latt’s mother is a cancer survivor. They turned the preem into a fund raiser for the American Cancer Society coinciding with Breast Cancer Awareness month. Close to $10,000 was raised.
The crazy storyline was what drove a plethora of TV stars to sign on to the picture. Alley Mills said, ” I love the freedom of doing a (small independent) film like this. You can get away with murder.”
Wil Wheaton said, “I’m so unfunny, but this movie is just goofy, ridiculous and over the top.”
Others chipping in for charity via the silent auction on the back terrace included stars Eric Lutes, Danica McKellar, Gary Owens and Debra Wilson, plus Orson Bean and Paul Logan.
