PRAGUE — When your mantel boasts two Oscars even the president shows up for your film’s premiere.
Czech helmer Jan Sverak (winner of foreign-lingo Oscar for “Kolya” and a student Oscar), rubbed shoulders with head of state Vaclav Havel at the garden party celebrating the preem of his “Dark Blue World” in central Prague last week.
Joining the director were his script-writing father Zdenek, producer Eric Abraham, and stars Ondrej Vetchy, Tara Fitzgerald, Hans Jorg Hassmann and Krystof Hadek. The VIP audience also included Karlovy Vary film fest president Jiri Bartoska, culture minister Pavel Dostal and helmer Sasa Gedeon.
The battalion of army uniforms spotted among the crowd didn’t all come from the Barrandov studio costume department. Special guests included Czechs who served with Britain’s Royal Air Force during WWII, the subject of the pic.
