Carmoli, Washington also receive Choreography Awards
The seventh annual American Choreography Awards paid tribute to Bob Mackie with the Governor’s Award for his work costuming dancers in film, TV and stage Sunday at Hollywood’s El Capitan.
Aside from treating attendees to a live dance extravaganza, Tony Charmoli was honored for showcasing dance in the media with a Career Achievement Award, while Lula Washington received the Educator Award for her work as a teacher and activist in the dance community.
Among the celebrity presenters were Carol Burnett, Gregory Hines, Pink, Jane Krakowski, Thomas Carter and Mitzi Gaynor. Event’s proceeds will go to the Academy of Dance on Film library.
Award winners were Tina Landon — Mya “Case of the Ex” for musicvideo — hip-hop; Brian “Footwork” Green — Mya “Free” for in musicvideo — hip-hop; Michael Rooney, a double winner with Fat Boy Slim “Weapon of Choice” and Exxon/Mobil “Swing” for musicvid and commercials, respectively.
In TV categories, recipients were Patti Colombo, — “Two Guys and a Girl” in episodic television; and Barry Lather, 2001 Miss America Pageant variety or special. John O’Connell received the feature film kudo for “Moulin Rouge.”
