Reality TV took a satirical drubbing Tuesday night at the Angelika Film Center as USA Films unspooled Dan Minahan’s “Series 7,” depicting a gameshow that hands its contestants sawed-off shotguns.
Perhaps not such an exaggeration, said real “Survivor,” Sean Keniff.
“My tribe was pretty hostile,” Keniff noted at the after-party at downtown bar Fez. “I was begging for a gun some days.”
Minahan, who wrote “Series 7” prior to the rise of “Survivor,” attributed his film’s inspiration to some of that show’s less pretentious predecessors. “I’m kind of old school,” he said, “I like ‘Cops.’ ”
Hosting the party were Blow Up Pictures’ Joana Vicente and Jason Kliot, who produced the pic with Killer Films’ Katie Roumel and Christine Vachon.
Among those attending were cast members Brooke Smith, Marylouise Burke, Glenn Fitzgerald, Donna Hanover and Michael Kaycheck; and guests Ethan and Joel Coen with Frances McDormand, Mary Harron, Kimberly Peirce, Piper Perabo, Peter Sarsgaard and John Walsh.
