Helmer: Working with studios 'was like a honeymoon'

HOLLYWOOD — Though filmmakers complimenting each other at a screening party are as much a part of the ritual as serving hors d’oeuvres, “Enemy at the Gates” director Jean-Jacques Annaud seemed genuine in his praise for the production execs.

“I went through a love affair with Paramount and Mandalay,” said the French director at Par March 7.

“It was like a honeymoon. The comments were so wise. It’s so refreshing to be able to say these things because you hear so many horror stories.”
