Stars, legit players and a legion of rabid fans turned out to celebrate the 20th birthday of the musical “Dreamgirls” on Monday night at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts. The gala concert was a benefit for the Actors’ Fund of America and was followed by a party at Lundy’s.
Rosie O’Donnell wore sweats and her friendly scowl. Sarah Jessica Parker revealed a curly new bob, and was accompanied by Matthew Broderick in bow tie. Others on hand to cheer the 21st-century Dreams — Heather Headley, Audra McDonald and Lillias White — included Christopher Meloni, in a sharp orange suit, Cynthia Nixon, Betty Buckley, Brian Stokes Mitchell and Luther Vandross. Legit players in attendance included producers Roger Berlind, Scott Rudin and Cameron Mackintosh, as well as “Dreamgirls” composer Henry Krieger.
