With the closure of the “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” ride at Disneyland in 1994, you just knew Disney was waiting for the release of “Atlantis” to create a whole new underwater world. The time has come.
At Sunday’s premiere, co-director Kirk Wise said, “The whole lagoon at Disneyland is just waiting for Atlantis to be dropped into it.”
A waterfall cascaded down the blue-carpeted entrance of the El Capitan as Cree Summer declared the movie “visually beyond, beyond what I had imagined.” She wore the illuminated crystal that her character Princess Kida sports in the movie, but admitted hers was merely purchased from Toys R Us. “I think it makes me look beautiful,” she said.
Those exploring the underwater sea world at the post-party adjacent the El Cap included producer Don Hahn; co-directors Wise and Gary Trousdale; voice actors Phil Morris, Claudia Christian, David Ogden Stiers, Florence Stanley and Jacqueline Obradors (fellow voicer Michael J. Fox walked the preem carpet and left); songwriter Diane Warren with composer James Newton Howard; Disney exex Michael Eisner, Dick Cook, Peter Schneider, Oren Aviv, Thomas Schumacher and Fred Tio; and guests Melissa Joan Hart (with her two nieces), Jamie Foxx, Lisa Bonet, Jane Seymour (with twin sons Kris and John) and Rachael Leigh Cook.
