A little bit of country in H’wood

Filmmakers pull Keith's chain for songs

HOLLYWOOD — While Norman, Okla., is getting psyched for college football season as its Sooners look to repeat as the national champions, native son and country singer Toby Keith is looking toward Hollywood and the creation of his own sitcom.

At his record release party Wednesday at the El Rey, Keith said he’s been approached by Hollywood filmmakers to write songs for their projects. And with DreamWorks Records having just released his “Pull My Chain” CD the day before, the word “synergy” certainly comes to mind.

“I’ve been offered my own sitcom. I just have to come up with the theme. I know I have a keen sense of humor. Why, this could be a real Southern tragedy,” Keith said backstage prior to the 11-song set.

Later, he joked with the KZLA 93.9 crowd about the CD title: “I chose ‘Pull My Chain’ for the title after the record label rejected ‘Pull My Finger.’ ”

Watch out, Chris Isaak, Toby Keith is following in your footsteps.
