Prominent theatrical attorney Walter C. Schier died Jan. 3 at Hoag Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles following lung surgery. He was 75.
Schier was a partner in the firm of Katz, Moselle and Schier, and during a long career represented entertainment figures including Arthur Godfrey, Joe Cates, Edgar Scherick, Perry Como and Pat Boone.
Some of the earliest cable law was based on cases handled by Schier on behalf of his clients.
Schier moved from New York to California in 1972 to take a post as senior VP of Filmways, when that company was producing some of television’s top shows, including “The Beverly Hillbillies.”
He later joined the firm of Hertzberg & Childs. Recently he has been consulting for many former clients, as well as Mace Neufeld Prods.
Services will be held today at 3 p.m. at Hillside Memorial Park.
