Robert D. Selleck

Robert D. Selleck, the father of actor Tom Selleck and a well-known San Fernando Valley real estate developer, died March 21 at USC Medical Center of complications following surgery. He was 79.

Born in Lapeer, Mich., Selleck attended Ohio Wesleyan U. and later served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

During his long career as a real estate executive, he served as a vice president and director of corporate communications for Coldwell Banker Commercial Group.

He participated in Los Angeles’ civic activities as a director of the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee, commissioner and president of the Los Angeles Coliseum Commission and president of the Los Angeles Board of Recreation and Parks Commission.

In addition to his actor son, he is survived by his wife, Martha Jagger Selleck, two other sons, 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
