Janet Shaw (Ellen Martha Clancy Stuart)

Ellen Martha Clancy Stuart, who appeared in more than 35 movies during the 1930s and ’40s, died Oct. 15 of Alzheimer’s disease in Beatrice, Neb. She was 82.

Professionally known as Janet Shaw, Stuart appeared in films with Bette Davis, Clark Gable, Tex Ritter and Robert Taylor.

Feature credits included “Jezebel,” “Boy Meets Girl,” “Girls on Probation,” “Torchy Blane in Chinatown,” “Waterloo Bridge,” “Blossoms in the Dust,” “The Mummy’s Tomb,” “They Won’t Believe Me” and “Prehistoric Women.”

Stuart, born in Beatrice in 1919, lived most of her life in California. She was briefly married but had no children. She returned to Beatrice in 1994.
