CANNES — Rai Trade, the distribution arm of Italian pubcaster RAI, pacted Monday with Liberty Intl. Entertainment, giving the L.A.-based distribution company U.S., Canadian and, where available, Latin American television rights to more than 30 titles.
Randy Neft, Liberty’s president and CEO, says the package includes pics, miniseries, new animated programs and musical productions, including a concert by tenor Andre Bocelli.
Liberty chairman Irv Holender said the transaction is “not a buy,” but “an ongoing participation deal” whereby “Rai Trade and program producers” will get compensation each time a program airs.
In a separate statement, Rai Trade emphasized its new role as a production partner in international TV fiction. “Dracula,” starring Patrick Bergin, Giancarlo Giannini and Stephania Rocca is in post-production. Beta and Rai Trade will share international distribution rights to the four-hour miniseries, a Lux Vide, KirchMedia production for RAI, in association with Beta and Rai Trade.
