Loonland teams for ‘Rock’

26 episodes look to be completed in '02

CANNES — Munich-based TV Loonland AG in November will start its first computer-generated images production, in cooperation with German kids web Super RTL and Cologne-based producer GUM Studios.

“Dragon’s Rock,” a series about a medieval dragon growing up among humans, will comprise 26 half-hour episodes combining puppetry with computer animation. GUM Studios, which specializes in lifesize puppets, will model each character as a real puppet first, then create a digital copy. For the character creation, the producers have hired Harald Siepermann, who has designed characters for Disney’s “Mulan” and “Tarzan.”

Co-financer Super RTL will keep the German rights for the series, with TV Loonland holds all other worldwide rights. The 26 episodes are due to be completed in summer of 2002.
