Cary Granat is the founder of Walden Media, an educational media company based in New York. Although he was not in New York City at the time of the attacks, the tragedy hit close to home.
Heroes: “The two gentlemen who carried the woman on the wheelchair down 60 flights of stairs are really incredible. I think the people of New York are heroic. The way they are coming together. I have never been in the city before and seen such a sense of community; it’s unbelievable. I think this has connected people in a whole different way. There is a whole different level of patriotism now that exists.”
Coping: “It’s a highly emotional time right now for everybody at our company. Many people have lost friends or business acquaintances. Many people have seen streets that they live on be taken over by thousands of rescue workers and have their lives completely changed. Our company is trying to be as supportive to all our employees as possible right now and give them both the space and or any specific tools to deal and help them through the situation. For me, I try to embrace each day as it comes, live life to the fullest and spend way more time with my family.”
Moving on: “We are very focused at our company on our mission statement, which is integrating education with entertainment; and I think even more so now we believe that what we’re doing is very needed.”
