Gotham’s MetroTV cable channel has unveiled a monthly program that will air highlights from local film festivals. Series will kick off Nov. 11 with “The Best of the New York Comedy Film Festival.”
Upcoming episodes, all under the “Best Of” banner, will focus on the New York Intl. Film and Video Festival, the New York Gay/Lesbian Film Festival, the New York Asian Film Festival, the Long Island Film Festival and the Brooklyn Intl. Film Festival, among others. Metro has already secured cross-promotional partnerships with several festival organizers.
“We’re trying to leverage MetroTV’s reach, programming and on-air promotion vehicles to raise awareness for and attendance at local area festivals,” said Michael Rudich, Metro’s veep of marketing & communications. “At the same time, the festivals are an efficient way to get the word out about our commitment to independent film.”
Metro’s first experience with festival coverage came in May, when the channel aired a special on the New York Stories/Angelika Film Festival.
