MIAMI — MTV Latin America has inked its first PPV deal in the region for two “Unplugged” specials.
Satcaster Sky Mexico has bought the rights to MTV’s specials with Chilean pop/rock band La Ley and with Spanish singer-composer Alejandro Sanz.
“We’ve previously expanded MTV’s reach through syndication, the Internet and other ancillary businesses, so this is a natural step towards creating additional windows for our programming and generating new business opportunities for the channel,” said Pierluigi Gazzolo, VP of Distribution and Interactive Services for MTV Networks Latin America.
Sky Mexico aired the La Ley special on August 1. A PPV date for the Sanz show, which will be taped in September, has not yet been set.
After the specials air on PPV, they will be broadcast on the MTV channels in Latin America, Brazil and Spain, as well as on MTV-S, its U.S. Spanish-lingo feevee.
The shows will also be available on CD and DVD.
