Org sets free concerts

Musicians have the opportunity to make a positive impact, Berman sez

A national musicians org has announced plans to hold at least 50 free concerts to honor lives lost in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and salute the recovery efforts.

“Because music has the unique ability to unite our people and uplift our spirits, musicians have the opportunity to make a positive impact on our communities,” said Noel Berman, trustee of the Recording Industries Music Performance Trust Funds. “At no time has it been more important than it is today to do whatever can be done to bring people together and help the healing process.”

The MPTF already has held concerts in Lexington, Ky., Harrisburg, Pa., and Hartford, Conn., and has set more than 50 other such events. Additionally, the org has offered to sponsor at least one free concert in each of the more than 250 areas in which the American Federation of Musicians has locals.
