Exec shifts to Latin focus
Sony Discos, the Miami-based Latin music arm of Sony Music, has named company veteran Jorge Melendez executive VP, reporting directly to chairman Oscar Llord.
Melendez will work with Llord to oversee all day-to-day operations of the label, whose roster includes such Latin luminaries as Colombian pop star Shakira and Tejano balladeer Alejandro Fernandez. Melendez will pay especially close attention to business affairs and financial matters at the imprint.
Exec has spent 13 years inside Sony Music, including a five-year stint as veepee of finance and operations immediately prior to his promotion. He joined the label in 1988 as manager of internal audits. Before signing on at Sony, Melendez spent four years at big-five accounting firm Arthur Andersen in New York.
