Julio Iglesias is to become the Latin Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences’ person of the year in recognition of his professional and philanthropic accomplishments.
The singer will be honored during a tribute dinner and concert Sept. 11 in Miami, the day before the acad’s second annual Latin Grammy Awards at Miami’s American Airlines Arena.
This is the second time the nod has been bestowed. Emilio Estefan was feted last year at LARAS’ frosh run of the Latin Grammy Awards.
“Julio Iglesias is the preeminent ambassador for Latin music and culture throughout the world,” said prexy and CEO Michael Greene at the May 2 announcement. “It is so very rare that a man of such talent, passion and commitment to his fans and culture comes along, and it is the Latin Academy’s great pleasure to honor this international treasure.”
