NEW YORK — The Island Def Jam Music Group has tapped former Atlanta lawyer Jeff Kempler senior vice president of business and legal affairs.
Kempler, who will be based in Island Def Jam’s New York offices, reports to IDJ chairman and chief exec Jim Caparro. Kempler will oversee all of the label’s legal activities, as well as its Recording Administration Dept., which handles the business end of recording and A&R. Island Def Jam is a subsidiary of Universal Music.
Before signing on at IDJ, Kempler was a partner at Atlanta entertainment law firm Greenberg Traurig LLP, where he oversaw the transactional music industry group for nearly a decade.
During his tenure at the firm, Kempler’s clients included artists LL Cool J and Toni Braxton, producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences and Island Records’ black music division.
