Bow of McCartney doc to coincide with release of best-of CD
CANNES — Buena Vista Intl. Television has sold “Wingspan,” the feature length doc on Paul McCartney’s post-Beatles career, to the U.K.’s Channel 4.
The event program will likely air in late May — shortly after its May 11 debut on ABC in the U.S. — and will be accompanied by a major promotional push, including an appearance by McCartney on Irish comedian Graham Norton’s C4 talk show.
To coincide, EMI is releasing a 40-song McCartney best-of CD called “Wingspan” May 7.
The TV “Wingspan” — from McCartney’s MPL production company — covers the period after the 1970 demise of the Beatles when Macca, as Brits refer to the aging rock star, enjoyed considerable success with Wings.
Buena Vista Intl. TV holds the international rights to the program, and the C4 deal was announced at Disney’s Mip-TV lunch Wednesday.
David Hulbert, prexy for Walt Disney Television Intl. Europe, added that there were advanced plans to expand Disney’s presence on Spanish satcaster Canal Satelite from one to four channels.
