NEW YORK — Marlo Thomas has made a deal with the Simon & Schuster imprint Pocketbooks to write “The Right Words at the Right Time,” a book with inspirational essays by luminaries including Muhammad Ali, former President Jimmy Carter, Jack Nicholson, Paul McCartney and Bill Cosby.
Thomas previously wrote the bestsellers “Free to Be … You and Me” and “Free to Be … A Family,” following a similar formula. The book, signed up by Pocketbooks exec veep and publisher Judith Curr, will be published May 2002.
Thomas approached those and other celebrities to write essays about the best advice they received and how it changed their lives. Other contributors include Venus Williams, Katie Couric, Sean Penn and Stephen Ambrose.
All of Thomas’s proceeds will be donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, which was founded by her father, Danny Thomas in 1962. Robert Levine brokered her deal.
Separately, Thomas is hosting and co-exec producing “A Few Good Women,” a Lifetime project that is part of a monthlong network promotion on women’s heroes.
