World Brief

PARIS — Private web TF1 and film group Pathe have ditched ambitious merger plans after months of discussions. A personality clash between TF1 chairman Patrick Le Lay and Pathe chief Jerome Seydoux, as well as differences over the financial evaluation of their respective groups’ activities, were cited as the reasons behind the decision.

TF1 and Pathe revealed in November that they were in talks to merge “movie rights management, acquisition and distribution” activities — a move spurred by the creation of Vivendi Universal. Merged company would have started out with a catalog of 1,200 titles.
