Feds called in as Guild's'last, best off' was refused

Negotiations resumed Wednesday between the Screen Actors Guild and its business reps under supervision of a federal mediator.

The session was the first since the four dozen reps rejected SAG’s “last, best, final” offer last month. SAG had initially opposed inclusion of a mediator, but relented once the biz reps authorized negotiators to call a strike if the Guild refused.

Money has been the sticking point. SAG’s offer would have given the reps, who voted to affiliate with the Teamsters as Local 986, an 8% salary hike over the next year.
