Former Beatle has surgery at Mayo Clinic
LONDON — George Harrison has had surgery for lung cancer. The former Beatle, 58, underwent the operation at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota earlier this week. A spokeperson said Harrison “has made an excellent recovery” and that “he is in the best of spirits and on top form.” In December 1999, Harrison and his wife Olivia survived a knife attack from an intruder at their home in Henley-on-Thames, a town to the west of London. Harrison was repeatedly stabbed in the chest but suffered no major injuries. Harrison was also treated for throat cancer in 1997. Recently, EMI re-released 1970′s “All Things Must Pass,” Harrison’s first and most successful post-Beatles album.
