Comedy shutters after 366 B'way perfs, 20 previews

“The Dinner Party” will close Sept. 1 at the Music Box Theater.

Neil Simon’s latest will have played 366 performances and 20 previews on Broadway.

Although it opened to mixed reviews on Oct. 19, 2000, the comedy quickly recouped its cost and played to healthy audiences through the spring.

Grosses began to dip after Jon Lovitz and Larry Miller replaced original headliners John Ritter and Henry Winkler. Last week, “The Dinner Party” grossed $227,070 of a potential $430,276.
