Schlossberg, Icarus set 'Moscow' for Promenade
NEW YORK — Julian Schlossberg confirmed that he and Icarus Prods. will present Ralph Fiennes and Anthony Hopkins in William Nicholson’s new play “Retreat from Moscow,” to be directed by Mike Nichols. Icarus is Nichols’ production company.Sinead Cusack will join the two actors in the three-character drama about a son (Fiennes) who tries to salvage his parents’ crumbling marriage. Schlossberg has set a March opening at the Promenade Theater, an Off Broadway venue that has increasingly hosted plays with starry casts. Last fall, Alan Bates and Eileen Atkins headlined the 399-seat theater in “The Unexpected Man,” and last week Macaulay Culkin and Joely Richardson opened in “Madame Melville.” Schlossberg is a producer on both those shows. Before helming the Nicholson play, Nichols directs Meryl Streep and Kevin Kline in Chekhov’s “The Seagull” in Central Park this summer. Earlier this season, Fiennes starred in productions of “Coriolanus” and “Richard II” at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Hopkins’ stage work is far more rare. “The Return to Moscow” will mark his first legit appearance in more than 15 years.
