David Hawkanson, managing director of the Guthrie Theater, announced he will not renew his contract with the Minneapolis company. His contract ends July 30. The Guthrie Theater’s board of directors and artistic director Joe Dowling have begun a search to fill the position.
Hawkanson has agreed to serve as a consultant on the Guthrie’s move to a new three-theater facility, designed by Jean Nouvel, in downtown Minneapolis.
Prior to his five-year tenure with the Guthrie, Hawkanson was managing director of Hartford Stage Company and managing director of the Crossroads Theatre Company in New Brunswick, N.J.
