'Follies' lead pack with 390g

NEW YORK — Warm weather and an additional two shows brought a boost to Broadway in Week 42 (March 12-18), raising the week’s total net to $12,531,860, an increase of 13.5%. Attendance was 234,082, a rise of 14%.

Of the five shows previewing, “Follies” led the pack, taking in $390,635 out of a potential of $494,193 for its first full week. “Bells Are Ringing” joined the roster for the first time, netting $263,839 out of a potential $610,863 for the week.

Shows gained almost across the board. Big winners were “Annie Get Your Gun,” up a rip-roaring $119,246 to net $763,713 out of a potential $910,495; “Aida,” up $96,164 to $855,215 out of $876,101; and “The Phantom of the Opera,” which brought in $685,334, an increase of $98,200. A few shows were off, notably “The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe,” which played a shortened week.

The 21 musicals totaled $10,715,461 for 85% of the Broadway returns, with paid attendance of 192,970 at 89% of musical capacity.

The 8 plays totaled $1,816,399 for 14% of the Broadway total, with paid attendance of 41.112 at 96% of play capacity.

Average ticket prices were $53.54 for all shows, $54.38 for musicals and $44.59 for plays.
