Scribe-producer makes 'Barbarians' deal for six-figures
Fox has connected with writer-producer Alan Zweibel (“The Story of Us”) on comedy pitch “Barbarians at the Plate” in a low- against midsix-figure deal.
“Barbarians” centers on a father who decides to run the local baseball league in an effort to improve his relationship with his son.
“It’s based on the living hell I went through when I took the job as the commissioner of my son’s Little League,” Zweibel told Daily Variety. “Once the battles started on the field, the parents came after me like piranhas. The whole process disintegrated with parents acting like children.”
Zweibel later wrote an article about the experience for Los Angeles magazine.
Davis Entertainment Co. chairman John Davis and prexy Wyck Godfrey will produce the project, with Fox production veep Nate Hopper overseeing for the studio.
The Endeavor-repped Zweibel is a former “Saturday Night Live” scribe and creator of “It’s Garry Shandling’s Show.” He also penned the novel “North,” which he later adapted with Andrew Scheinman as a screenplay for the Rob Reiner-helmed pic.
