Ahlert, Drake pen spec script that fetches mid- against high-six figures
Renee Zellweger is up for doing “Down With Love,” the Fox 2000 romantic comedy to be helmed by Peyton Reed (“Bring It On”).
While the deal hasn’t been finalized, Zellweger would star as a feminist writer who finds herself involved with a womanizing journalist.
“Down With Love” was penned by Eve Ahlert and Dennis Drake. Fox 2000 production prexy Elizabeth Gabler and exec veep Carla Hacken picked up the spec script in a deal worth mid- against high-six figures in February 2000. Hacken is shepherding the project for Gabler’s division.
Dan Jinks and Bruce Cohen are producing “Down With Love,” the first project the duo set up after producing Oscar winner “American Beauty.”
Zellweger, who is repped by CAA and John Carabino, is attached to several upcoming projects, including Miramax’s film version of the Bob Fosse musical “Chicago” and Revolution Studios’ dramedy “13 Going on 30.”
Thesp recently worked on Warner Bros.’ “White Oleander,” from director Peter Kosminsky.
