Owen Wilson will star opposite Eddie Murphy in “I Spy” for director Betty Thomas and Columbia Pictures. Pic is slated to move forward post strike, possibly as early as fall.
Loosely adapted by Marianne and Cormac Wibberly (“The Sixth Day”) from the NBC television series that aired between 1965 and ’68, pic centers on a top-secret government agent who teams with a professional athlete-turned-spy in order to recover a missing jet.
Thomas’ Tall Trees partner Jeno Topping produces the pic with Mario Kassar and Andy Vajna. Col exec VP production Matt Tolmach is the director of development Rachel O’Connor.
Wilson, repped by UTA, is currently shooting “The Royal Tennenbaums” for Disney. He will next be seen in “Zoolander” and “Behind Enemy Lines” and was most recently in “Meet the Parents” and “Shanghai Noon.”
