Warner Bros. Pictures and Clint Eastwood’s Malpaso Prods. have acquired the feature rights to Dennis Lehane’s bestselling novel “Mystic River” for Eastwood to produce and direct.
Published by William Morrow in January, “Mystic River” is a psychological suspense thriller that tells the story of three childhood friends whose relationship ends after a tragic incident, only to see them reunite 25 years later when they become linked to a murder investigation. Eastwood is currently seeking a writer to adapt the novel.
Eastwood most recently directed, produced and starred in “Space Cowboys” for Warners.
Lehane, who was repped in the deal by the Ann Rittenberg Literary Agency, is also the author of a series of detective novels about a pair of P.I.s who operate their agency from the belfry of a Boston church. That series includes “A Drink Before the War,” “Darkness Take My Hand,” “Sacred,” “Gone Baby Gone” and “Prayers for Rain.”
