Exec to top global marketer

Paul Smith has been elevated to exec VP of worldwide marketing and distribution for Columbia TriStar’s Motion Picture Group.

Smith will be involved in all areas of administration and operation of the group’s global marketing and distribbing, while maintaining day-to-day oversight of Sony’s local-language production companies in Germany and Hong Kong. Sony most recently enjoyed a huge B.O. lift from local-lingo production “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,” which has raked in $205 million worldwide to date.

“I’m excited to have this opportunity to work directly with Jeff Blake,” said Smith, adding that he looked forward to working with the marketing and distribution topper and his team because of their “creative and pragmatic approach.”

Smith previously served as exec veepee, operations and business affairs, orchestrating pic financing and supervising the acquisition of several Sony-distribbed pics.
