Attendance in 2000 down 2.2%
LONDON — Attendance of German arthouse cinemas was down 2.2% in 2000, according to new figures issed by Teutonic media watchdog the Gesellschaft fuer Konsumforschung, even though ticket prices dipped by by around 10%.
By contrast, the industry saw growth of 1.3% in 1998-99.
The study, which will be presented to Germany’s national film funding org, the FFA, showed that arthouse cinemas were suffering from the slump more than mainstream cinemas. One in 10 German screens is in an arthouse cinema.
