PARIS — The final scene in the Luc Besson-produced comedy actioner “Wasabi,” starring Jean Reno, has ended up on the cutting room floor following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the U.S.
The plane-hijacking scene was hastily replaced with a more suitable ending, insiders at Besson’s Europa Corp. said. Pic, directed by “Taxi 2” helmer Gerard Krawczyk, is due for an Oct. 31 release in France.
Europa’s other projects include the Corey Yuen-helmed “The Transporter,” a $20 million English-lingo pic about illegal immigrant trafficking starring Jason Statham.
With Philippe Rousselet’s Les Films de la Suane, company is co-producing Bernie Bonvoisin’s “Blanche,” a period actioner starring Lou Doillon, Jean Rochefort, Gerard Depardieu and Carole Bouquet. Europa is also developing a film based on French comicbook hero Michel Vaillant, Formula One champ, for which Besson will pen the script, as well as its first animated feature, “Arthur.”
