HOLLYWOOD — Sony Pictures Classics has acquired worldwide rights to Gillian Grisman’s doc “Grateful Dawg,” which follows the final days of Jerry Garcia.
Docu explores the musical friendship between Garcia and famed Blue Grass mandolinist and recording artist, David Grishman — Gillian’s father.
Pic was produced by 11th Hour Productions and Entertainment, with Acoustic Disc exec producing.
“We are thrilled to have this film,” said SPC co-president Tom Bernard. “As a tribute to this great artist, we are planning to open the film on August 1, Jerry Garcia’s birthday. ‘Grateful Dawg’ gives you the rare glimpse into the soul of Garcia.”
