Slamdance fetes sci-fi

McEvoy's 'Pixelated' takes first place

The Slamdance Film Festival has announced the winners of its first Sci Fi Screenplay Competition. Awards were given to the top three feature and short scripts.

Among the first-time filmmakers honored were “The Pixelated Man” by J.A. McEvoy, first place; “Robots Never Die” by David Van Hooser, second place feature; “The Cassini Effect” by Charles Hall and Kara McCourt, third place feature; “Recalling Sam” by Christopher and Donald Barr, first place short; “Actortraz” by Bryan Deats, second place short; “Hungry” by Stacia Saint Owens” for third place short.

Honorees will receive cash prizes, Sci Fi goodies and a first look opportunity with development at the Sci Fi Channel. All contestants are eligible for script coverage by calling the Slamdance office.

Select scenes from the Sci Fi screenplays will be showcased at the monthly Slamdance reading series Nov. 12 at the Knitting Factory in Hollywood.
