DreamWorks will release “Shrek” two days early in Gotham and L.A. on May 16.
“Shrek” is set to preem nationwide on Friday, May 18 with more than 3,200 engagements planned. The Loews Lincoln Square megaplex will get an early exclusive run in New York; the early L.A. run will unspool at the AMC Century 14.
“We think it potentially could be one of our biggest animated features so far,” said DreamWorks distrib topper Jim Tharp. “It’s a movie that will play a big part of the summer.”
Created by DreamWorks/PDI, “Shrek” features the voices of Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz and John Lithgow. Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson are co-helmers.
Studio’s most recent animated pic was last year’s Brit-produced laffer “Chicken Run,” which grossed $225 million worldwide.
