‘Shanghai’ gets the Boot

Laffer beat 'Horses,' 'South' at 19th annual Awards Ceremony

The Motion Picture & Television Fund held its 19th annual Golden Boot Awards Ceremony Saturday at the Beverly Hilton, bestowing its top prize on “Shanghai Noon.”

The Touchstone laffer beat out “All the Pretty Horses” and “South of Heaven, West of Hell” for the best of the West award.

Golden Boot awards were presented to Alex Cord, Barbara Hale, Loren Janes, Chuck Norris, Andrew Prine and Eli Wallach for furthering the tradition of the Western in film and TV.

John Clark Gable accepted the Centennial Award in honor of the anniversary of his late father Clark Gable’s 100th birthday.

An estimated 900 people were in attendance, with proceeds raised from ticket sales going to the Motion Picture & Television Fund’s various charities.
