Tyro's 'Ted' takes $25K, Screenplay Syetems software

Scriptapalooza announced Wednesday that “Ted Inc.” by Rett Thompson, a Xerox engineer in Rochester, N.Y., is the grand prize winner of its third annual screenplay competition.

Prizes also went to 12 other finalists, including Mike Cunningham for “Swing Vote” and Patti Wall for “Bogey Size It.”

Thompson’s first attempt at a script was chosen from more than 2,000 submissions. He will receive $25,000 and a suite of software from Screenplay Systems, which sponsors the competition. In addition, his script will be promoted by Scriptapalooza for the next year.

Last year’s second-prize winner, “Falling Over Venus” by Andrea Bailey, is in pre-production at Universal, with Mary Stuart Masterson attached to direct.

Scriptapalooza prexy Mark Andrushko said, “Our mission is to take these writers and their scripts to the next level, to provide access to the studios, production companies and agencies that control the film industry.”

The company was founded in l998 to discover talented writers through the competition.
