‘Schuh’ seizes German B.O. title

Pic reaches $45 mil mark, knocks 'Otto' off pedestal

BERLIN — After 13 weeks in the top five, Michael “Bully” Herbig’s comedy-Western “Der Schuh des Manitu” has become the most successful homegrown German film. Reaching the $45 million mark, pic knocked 1985’s “Otto — Der Film” out of the top spot.

“Schuh” had already bested “Titanic” as the biggest moneymaker in Austria.

Pic, from Munich producer-distrib Constantin, spoofs German Westerns of the 1960s and has struck a chord with kids and young adults who grew up on the old movies and the novels of popular German author Karl May on which they were based.
