Ruffalo eyes ‘Signs’ for Shyamalan

Thesp to join Gibson in crop-circle thriller

Mark Ruffalo (“You Can Count on Me”) is in negotiations to co-star with Mel Gibson in M. Night Shyamalan’s thriller “Signs” for the Walt Disney Co.

Gibson began negotiating several weeks ago. Story involves the mysterious sudden appearance of crop circles at a family farm in Pennsylvania. Like Shyamalan’s previous pics — “The Sixth Sense” and “Unbreakable” — “Signs” has supernatural overtones (Daily Variety, May 21).

Repped by CAA and manager Robert Stein, Ruffalo has wrapped DreamWorks’ Rod Lurie-helmed “The Castle,” in which he co-stars with Robert Redford.

He also co-stars opposite Gwyneth Paltrow in “A View From the Top,” helmed by Bruno Barreto, to be released by Miramax, and is a co-star in the John Woo-helmed Nicolas Cage starrer “Windtalkers,” to be released by MGM later this year.
