Fleming tapped to lead Revolutionary war-set 'Princess'

New Line Cinema has enlisted helmer Andy Fleming (“Dick”) to direct “American Princess” for the studio, with New Line-based Team Todd on board to produce.

Penned by Tom Abrams and Dennis Bartok, project was brought into the studio by New Line’s senior veep of development Donna Langley, who will oversee it.

Team Todd’s Jennifer and Suzanne Todd will produce. Lensing is expected to begin in the fall.

In “American Princess,” an English peasant girl who dreams of being a princess is caught dressing up in the queen’s clothing and is sent to America as an indentured servant. While there, she inadvertently gets involved in the resistance against the crown, following and falling in love with the leader of the resistance.

“We are really happy to be working with Andy,” Jennifer Todd told Daily Variety. “We think he has the perfect sensibility for the film.”

Team Todd recently produced Christopher Nolan’s “Memento.” Other TT credits include “The Boiler Room,” both “Austin Powers” pics and the HBO specials “If These Walls Could Talk” (I & II). They are developing a third “Walls” segment, also for HBO.

Fleming, repped by UTA, helmed “The Craft” and “Threesome.” He also directed the pilot for last year’s Darren Star series on the WB, “Grosse Pointe.”
